Frequently asked questions
Everything below in plain English. Still stuck? Send us a message.
Is BioFilz free?
Yes. Everything you enter yourself is free forever: your medication and supplement list and daily checklist, weigh-ins and progress photos, meals, exercise and steps, blood test results, notes, quick check-ins, vitals, breathing and meditation, tasks, reminders, all the charts and the full data export. The paid plans exist only for the AI features, which cost real money each time they run.
What do the paid plans add?
Pro is $19.95 a month and includes 500 AI credits. Plus is $49.95 a month and includes 2000. Credits are spent when the app reads something for you: a meal photo or a medication label costs 2, a pathology report costs 3, a written insight costs 2 and a full health report costs 4. Credits reset on the 1st of each month. If you have your own Anthropic API key you can use it instead, on any plan, with no credit limit from us.
Does BioFilz give medical advice?
No. It is a record-keeping tool. It cannot diagnose anything, it will never tell you to start, stop or change a medicine, and it does not check for drug interactions. Where it offers general suggestions about habits, food or exercise it does so with clear reminders to talk to your doctor or pharmacist. If you feel unwell, contact your doctor; in an emergency in Australia, call 000.
Does it connect to my scale?
No - and on purpose. Bluetooth connections from a browser to a scale proved unreliable (Apple does not allow it at all, and many scales use a private protocol), so BioFilz takes weigh-ins two ways that always work: type the numbers in, or photograph the scale display and let the app read weight, body fat, muscle and water from it. The photo is kept with the entry.
Can I connect my smartwatch?
Not directly - browsers are not allowed to read a watch app, and live Bluetooth streaming was too unreliable to keep. Instead, open the day in Samsung Health, Fitbit or Apple Fitness, take a screenshot, and the app reads the steps, distance, active minutes, sleep and resting heart rate from it - one day at a time. Sessions can also be logged by hand with duration, distance and heart rate.
Can I keep progress photos?
Yes. The Body page keeps dated photos of yourself, each stamped with your weight on that day, and lets you view any two side by side. They are stored privately with your account and included in your export and deletion like everything else.
What do the breathing and meditation pages do?
Breathe offers paced patterns (box, 4-7-8, coherent breathing) and Wim Hof rounds, with a spoken guide and a soft sound bed that rises and falls with each breath. Meditation has short narrated sessions - a body scan, breath focus, a sleep wind-down and a three-minute reset. Every session is saved to your record so you can see how often you actually do it.
How does the food photo work?
You photograph the plate and the app estimates the dish, its ingredients and the calories and macros. It is an estimate, not a measurement - portion size in particular is guesswork from a flat image. Every number is editable, so correct anything you know better. The photo is stored privately with the entry.
How accurate is the pathology scan?
It transcribes what is printed - marker, value, units, reference range and whether the value sits outside it. Transcription can still make mistakes, so check the numbers against the original report, which is stored alongside the entry. What the results mean for you is a conversation for the doctor who ordered them.
What does the DNA report cover?
It reads a curated panel of well-studied markers from your raw genotype file, covering food and drink tolerance, vitamins and minerals, weight and blood sugar, exercise and recovery, sleep and focus, everyday traits, and how your body handles common medicines. Your raw file is parsed in your browser: only those markers are ever sent to us, never your whole genome.
What does the DNA report NOT cover?
We deliberately do not interpret variants linked to serious inherited disease, such as APOE or BRCA. Consumer genotyping chips are not accurate enough for those, and results like that belong with a clinical genetics service and a genetic counsellor, not an app. Nothing in a DNA report is a diagnosis, and anything that would change your medical care must be confirmed by an accredited laboratory.
Why does a DNA report cost extra?
It is far larger than anything else in the app - a long report written across dozens of markers. It is priced as a one-off $29.95 processing charge per report plus 25 AI credits from your plan. You keep the report and can re-read it any time.
How do reminders work?
Mark a medication "remind me", set what time your morning, midday, evening and night doses fall, and this device gets a notification when one is due - and only if you have not already ticked it off. Tasks with a due time work the same way, and you can add your own repeating reminders. You can set quiet hours, and reminders arrive even when the app is closed. On iPhone you must add BioFilz to your home screen first, then open it from there.
Who can see my health data?
Only you. Records are tied to your account, and photos and documents are stored outside the web root and streamed only after a permission check. Nothing is sold, shared or used to train anything. When an AI feature runs, the relevant part of your data is sent to Anthropic to produce that one answer and is not used for training.
Can I get my data out, or delete it?
Yes to both, from Settings, at any time. Export gives you every record as a JSON file. Deleting your account permanently removes all of it - medications, weigh-ins, meals, exercise, test results, notes, DNA markers and every stored photo.
Does it work offline?
The app installs to your home screen and opens offline, so you can see the shell and cached pages. Saving new entries needs a connection.
Can I cancel?
Any time, from the billing portal inside the app. You keep every record you have entered and simply return to the free plan.
