Combining several PDFs into one is one of the most common document jobs - stitching a cover letter to a résumé, joining scanned receipts, or assembling a report from separate exports. The catch with most free tools is that they upload your files to a stranger’s server first. Here is how to do it without that risk.
The private way: in your browser
The Merge PDF tool runs entirely on your device. The moment you drop your files in, they are read into your browser’s memory, combined, and offered back as a download. Nothing is transmitted anywhere. You can confirm this yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and you will see no file being uploaded.
Step by step
- Open Merge PDF and drop in the files you want to join - add as many as you like.
- Drag the files into the order you want them to appear. The top file becomes the first pages.
- Click Merge PDF. Your combined document downloads instantly.
Tips for a clean result
- Order matters, not names. The tool merges in the order shown on screen, so drag rather than rename.
- Mixed page sizes are fine. Each source PDF keeps its own page dimensions in the combined file.
- Need to drop a page first? Run Organize PDF on a file to delete or reorder pages, then merge.
- Large files? There is no upload limit - the only ceiling is your device’s memory, which comfortably handles hundreds of pages.
When you might want a server tool instead
Merging never needs a server. But if the finished file is huge, follow up with Compress PDF to shrink it for email, or Protect PDF to add a password. Those two do use a secure server step - your file is processed and deleted immediately.
